I bought these for my husband and he has done nothing but rave about them. Since he is rather particular about his gardening, I can comfortably say that is a great recommendation in itself. He brought them in the other day to show me something about the handle swiveling so the lock won’t catch while you are using them…? I’m just glad he is so excited about his new pruners!

Bypass are being used to cut anything ” green” within it’s cutting capability, and because when you squeeze and cut, the handle you pull up also rotates to reduce figer fatigue, you might lose grip when wearing gloves, so remember to use this line of pruner bare handed, cuts great under normal posture, also with palm down position, not so when palm facing up, so you switching hands to do the job, and that’s when you will find out the power gear handle only rotates clockwise, and the design is not useful in your left hand, so left hand user beware.

My Fiskars 3X PowerGear Bypass Pruner performs as advertised, making effortless cuts through live branches up to 3/4-inch in diameter – and sometimes through thicker branches, as well. It’s lightweight, yet durable. I have used it continuously for over an hour with no hand-cramping or blisters. I use it on lodgepole pine, spruce, fir, aspen and willow. It cuts through live branches like a hot knife through butter. I wish Fiskars would have made the handles bright red or orange instead of black, however. Black looks sleek but is easily lost among garden and forest foliage when I lay it down to change to another tool. I am going to put red duct tape on the stationary handle.

these work very well-easy on the hands- I just bought the toro ratcheting pruners for about $11 and they work as good or even better. both good products.

I first tried this product at the International Master Gardener Conference trade show. The Fiscars rep said they’d be available at any of the big box stores that sell Fiscars products, but that turned out not to be true. My local Home Depot and Target sell the larger “arthritis friendly” model but not this smaller one. The cutting action is smooth and easy and the pruner fits my hand perfectly. If you have arthritis in your thumbs this tool is amazing. Instead of squeezing the handle, your fingers roll towards your thumb so there’s very little pressure on your joints. I absolutely love it.
